  • Nutrition Plan For Kids

Healthy Meals That Support Busy Little Bodies

Parents want to know their child is eating well during the day. Our nutrition approach focuses on balanced meals and snacks that help children stay active, focused, and ready to learn. Each meal is planned to support healthy growth, steady energy, and overall development with the important nutrients children need every day.

  • 1. Protein

Protein helps children build strong muscles, stay active, and support healthy growth. Kid-friendly sources include lean meats, eggs, dairy products, beans, lentils, nuts, and seeds, depending on each child’s age and dietary needs.

  • 2. Healthy Fats

Healthy fats give children lasting energy and help their bodies absorb important vitamins. Good options include olive oil, avocado, nuts, seeds, and fish such as salmon, depending on each child’s age, allergies, and dietary needs.

  • 3. Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates help children stay energetic, focused, and ready for play and learning. Healthy choices include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains such as oatmeal, brown rice, quinoa, and whole wheat options.

  • 4. Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins and minerals support healthy growth, immunity, energy, and overall development. Fruits and vegetables are great everyday sources, while fortified foods can also help children get the extra nutrients their growing bodies need.

  • To protect every child’s safety, health, and comfort, our Welland childcare centre follows clear daily guidelines for all families and children in our care:
  • Curriculum and Learning:

    • We create age-appropriate learning experiences that support the whole child: socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.
    • Children get space to explore, think, create, move, and learn at their own pace in a safe and caring environment.
    • Our daily routine includes indoor and outdoor play, creative activities, music, storytelling, early literacy, hands-on learning, and simple experiences that build real-world confidence.

    Parent Communication:

    • We use the HiMama App to keep parents connected with their child’s day at our Welland childcare centre. Educators share photos, activity updates, and daily reports so families can see what their child is learning, enjoying, and experiencing.
    • Parents can also view important details such as meals, snacks, nap time, diaper changes, and daily routines directly through the app.
    • We believe strong parent communication helps children feel more supported. Families are always welcome to share questions, concerns, or updates with our Centre Supervisor, and we work together to find the best solution for each child.
  • Nutrition:

    • We provide healthy meals and snacks guided by Canada’s Food Guide, while respecting each child’s allergies, dietary needs, and family or cultural preferences.
    • Children have access to water and milk during the day to stay hydrated and supported through active routines.
    • We help children build a positive relationship with food by encouraging balanced choices, calm mealtimes, and healthy eating habits from an early age.

    Policies and Procedures:

    • Our Welland childcare centre follows clear policies and daily procedures to help protect the safety, health, and wellbeing of children, staff, families, and visitors.
    • Parents and guardians receive a Parent Handbook with important details about centre policies, routines, expectations, and safety practices. Families are encouraged to review it and ask questions whenever needed.
    • We follow all applicable childcare laws, licensing rules, and safety standards under the CCEYA, the Ministry of Education, and Welland Public Health.
  • Our Welland childcare centre partners with Little Ones Lunches Ltd. to provide children with nutritious hot lunches during the day. Little Ones Lunches has been serving childcare centres across the Welland Region for over 6 years, and we are happy to work with a trusted local lunch provider that supports healthy meals for growing children.

  • Health and Safety:

    • Our Welland childcare centre follows strict health and safety practices to help keep children, staff, and families protected every day.
    • Children must have up-to-date immunization records as required by law. Children who are sick should remain at home until they are well enough to safely return to daycare.
    • Medication is only given with written parent or guardian permission. All medication must be provided in its original container with clear instructions.
    • Emergency and evacuation procedures are practiced regularly so children and staff know what to do if an urgent situation happens.
    • We also maintain a clean, safe environment through regular cleaning, disinfecting, and careful care of toys, surfaces, classrooms, and shared spaces.
By following these guidelines, we create a safe, healthy, and caring childcare environment where children can learn, grow, and feel supported each day.
